Workshop 4

The Role of Universities in the Innovative Economy

Universities clearly comprise a key element in the innovative economy: they prepare people capable of innovating. However, this does not seem to be enough these days and universities are facing a political and economical pressure to turn basic research into innovations themselves. This workshop will address the effects of producing innovations at universities on carrying out basic research, openness of the environment, scientific collaboration and, in particular, the ability to prepare the innovators of tomorrow: doctoral candidates.

  • Jiří Zlatuška, former rector, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic
  • Roman Nedela, Vice-rector for science and research, Matej Bel University in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia
  • Thomas Joergensen, EUA CDE, Brussels, Belgium

Chair: Max Reinhardt, Eurodoc
Rapporteur: Sverre Lundemo, Eurodoc
