International Public Forum on Public Diplomacy in Moscow

Russian Union of Young Scientists (RUYS) took part in the International Public Forum “Public Diplomacy for International Humanitarian Cooperation” which took part in Moscow on December 16, 2010.
Participants from 65 countries gathered together in Moscow to discuss the role of public diplomacy in promoting international cooperation. The Russian President’s Chief of Staff Sergey Naryshkin in his address speech emphasized that the civil society should become an equal partner with the state in foreign relations, and public diplomacy is to open up the present day Russia to the outside world as well as open up the world for Russia.
RUYS representatives Alexander Tcheglov and Natalia Podvoiskaya took part in the discussions about the role of non-profit organisations in public diplomacy efforts, in particular, in the area of education and research.

Austria: Fair research contracts – a good start into a successful research career

For a successful career in research it is important to ensure proper funding and also fair contractual arrangements and favourable framework conditions. To raise awareness on the importance of contracts and to present a new guiding booklet on contracts for researchers, the Austrian young researchers’ platform doktorat.at and GPA-djp (an Austrian trade union) invited stakeholders and young researchers on November, 11, 2010 to a panel discussion titled Fairer Forschungsvertrag – guter Laufbahnstart [Fair research contracts – a good start into a successful research career] in the premises of the Austrian National Bank.
Representatives of doktorat.at, the Austrian trade union and the Austrian National Bank, the latter who also funds research by means of its “Jubiläumsfonds”, presented their viewpoints. The panel discussion was followed by the presentation of the guiding booklet on contracts for researchers which can be obtained from the platform work@professional.
The event was closed by productive discussions in working groups which continued also in the informal setting at the buffet.
