Travelling to Budapest
Budapest is known as a vibrant, centrally located capital with a rich cultural heritage and excellent international accessibility. Budapest is well connected by both air and rail, with direct flights to major European cities and efficient public transportation within the city.
Thanks to its well-connected and extensive network of buses, boats, trams, getting around Budapest is easy.
The Hungarian capital is highly walkable, and for the times when you need to reach further destinations or get somewhere quickly, there are plenty of options.
By train
Budapest is a well-connected city with direct links to many other European cities. By choosing to travel by train, you contribute to Eurodoc’s environmental commitments. International trains arrive at Keleti (Eastern), Nyugati (Western), or Déli (Southern) railway stations.
You can find all trains to and from Budapest in the Eurail timetable.
By bus
It is possible to take an international bus to arrive in Budapest. For example, with Flixbus. Buses arrive at several stations, including Budapest-Kelenföld, Népliget, and the Airport (BUD). It is highly recommended to book in advance via the FlixBus app or website to secure lower prices.
By plane
International flights to Budapest land at Ferenc Liszt International Airport, southeast of the city.
There are several convenient ways to reach the city centre and accommodation:
- Airport shuttle bus (100E)
The direct airport shuttle bus 100E connects the airport to the city centre (Kálvin tér or Deák Ferenc tér) in approximately 30–40 minutes. It operates every 10–15 minutes. Tickets can be purchased at airport ticket machines, on board, or via the BKK mobile app.
- Bus 200E + Metro (M3)
Bus 200E runs from the airport to Kőbánya-Kispest, where you can transfer to Metro line M3 towards the city centre (for the main accommodation to Semmelweis Klinikák metro station, for the conference and AGM venue to Kálvin tér metro station). This option is slightly cheaper but requires a transfer and takes around 40-50 minutes.
- Taxi
You can use apps such as Bolt and Uber. A trip to the city centre typically takes 25–35 minutes, depending on traffic and costs around 12.000 HUF (30 euros approximately).
By car
Please note that parking in the city is regulated and subject to fees in most districts.
Street parking operates in designated zones. You can pay at parking meters, but the easiest option is to use a mobile app such as EasyPark. The app allows you to start, stop, or extend your parking.
Parking spaces in central areas can be limited.
