The Association of Hungarian PhD and DLA Candidates (DOSZ) is the representative body of the doctoral candidates participating in the Hungarian doctoral education. It was founded in 1994 in the form of an association according to Hungarian law. The daily work in the Association is carried out by the DOSZ board and secretary.
The main decision-making body is the general meeting which usually takes place twice a year.
The principal fields of our activities:
- Organizing conferences and other events for PhD and DLA candidates: The most popular of them is the Spring Wind Conference hosted by one of the university cities of Hungary, with more than 400 participants, intended to provide possibilities for PhD candidates from all fields of research to present the summary of their research activity. The Milestone Conference is an annual internal conference focused on current issues. The DOSZFeszt aims to integrate first-year PhD candidates.
- Scientific departments: Covering all of the scientific fields, scientific departments aim to organize the community of specific scientific fields. The self-organized, volunteer-based groups organise scientific conferences, workshops, and also informal gatherings.
- DOSZ Ambassadors System: Since almost 30% of PhD candidates are internationals - especiall third-country nationals - in Hungary, DOSZ initiated a representational system for them, where the national ambassadors organise their groups, keep connections with the embassies, and represent the international PhD candidates.
DOSZ has many parallel activities, from policy-making through legal aid to PhD candidates, to participation in quality-assurance processes of doctoral schools in Hungary.
