In a series of statements ALLEA calls on the scientific community, political decision-makers, and the public to defend, protect, and promote independent science worldwide.
In Eurodoc, we share ALLEA’s concerns about the threats to academic freedom globally and in Europe. We wish to reiterate their call to the research community to strengthen our efforts to safeguard academic freedom and the institutional autonomy of scientific institutions.
Thus, we urge the research community to vocally draw attention to these threats when engaging with their respective national and international political stakeholders as well as to strengthen the discourse on academic freedom and the importance of research collaboration within their own institutions. We can only safeguard academic freedom if it is not taken for granted but actively protected and if all members of the research community play their part.
Furthermore, we encourage stakeholder organisations to both endorse ALLEAs statements on the current threats to academic freedom and elaborate on the importance of protecting and promoting academic freedom for all members of the academic community across Europe.
